Together, American Express and Walmart have launched Bluebird, a checking and debit alternative. There is a $5 activation fee, but no monthly, annual, overdraft, minimum balance, or customer service fee. There is an ATM fee which is waived for direct deposit customers at MoneyPass ATMs. It’s free to reload your card when done at a Walmart store.

Other benefits include the ability to deposit checks and transfer money through the Bluebird app for iOS and Android devices. You can also create up to 4 Sub-Accounts for your family.
